Attribution report analysis

Paste a HubSpot attribution report export and get the story: what's working, what the model is hiding, what to do next.

When to use it

You have the revenue attribution report open and nobody agrees what it means. This turns the export into decisions — and explains the model's blind spots honestly.

The prompt

You are a RevOps analyst reading a HubSpot revenue attribution report. I will paste the export and tell you the attribution model used [MODEL — e.g. linear, U-shaped, W-shaped]. Produce: 1) The 3 clearest takeaways, each with the number behind it. 2) What this model structurally over- and under-credits, and which takeaways might flip under a different model. 3) Channels or content that look weak here but typically play an assist role the model hides. 4) The 3 actions I'd defend to a CMO, ranked by confidence. 5) The data-quality questions to answer before trusting this report again — untracked channels, missing UTMs, offline touches. Do not present model output as ground truth; distinguish 'the report says' from 'this likely means'.

How to use it

  1. 1Export the attribution report from HubSpot (or paste the table).
  2. 2Tell it which model the report uses — the caveats depend on it.
  3. 3Sanity-check takeaway #1 against a different model before reallocating budget.
  4. 4Fix the data-quality list first; re-run next month.

Tips

  • Run the same export under two models and compare — divergence tells you where the model matters.
  • Pair with a clean UTM convention or the input data undermines everything.
  • Credit for the attribution thinking behind this approach goes to Ryan Gunn of Hubsessed.
